The Wee Lassies
Because, no doubt, of some lingering cultural bias, I (Tom) prevailed on Leslie to get a Scottish Deerhound. So, Foxcroft ValeVue Feeno Dyree came to live with us (and with some puzzled Borzois) for 11 years and 4 months. (A "Feeno Dyree" is one of the wee folk in Scottish folklore). "Fairee", the fair one, taught us all that they are in fact "Deardogs", as so many humans call them, and are very different than Borzois. Fairee injured her foreleg & shoulder in her first attempt of coursing due to the all too common mistake even otherwise good lure operators make when confronted with an lure-intent Deerhound for the first time. That long, long Deerhound stride doesn't look as if they are fast, but believe me, they are! Fairee took a spectactular tumble and coursing and showing stopped right then. Although we were prevailed upon to use Fairee for breeding and she had a fine litter of eight puppies, we did not and do not intend to become Deerhound breeders, much as we love the breed. Now, if we didn't have Borzois.....
We kept one of the puppies from the litter, and Entwood Valevue Iron Maiden was shown sparingly and gathered a few points. Unfortunately, she followed her mother in coursing, being "dumped in the corner" in her first JC run. At least her several rolls didn't leave any permanent damage. She now lives with Tom's daughter Barbara, her husband & son Alexander in WA.
